Help your players level up with RockIt Rugby
Russell Earnshaw and John Fletcher are rockstar coaches. Their RockIt Rugby app gives players challenges to improve their skills as well as support for coaches and parents. Rusty explains more...
A Rockit Rugby app challenge with USA and Sale Sharks player Katana Howard
RockIt Rugby is an app to help players become more skilful through a series of age-specific progressive challenges both on and off the pitch.
By connecting player-coach-parent, the app will also develop coaching craft and help parents to be be even better supporters of their children
Fletch and I got pretty frustrated by the postcode lottery for youth coaching. We also wanted to help coaches who are finding it hard to focus on EVERY individual in every session. RockIt was the solution to both of these problems.
The aim of RockIt is to help coaches and parents assist players to become more skilful and have an even greater chance of falling in love with rugby
Anyone with access to a phone who wants to get better at rugby can access the app, including players, coaches and parents
Players and clubs from around the world are currently on the app. They’re joined by rockstar players with secret missions and input to help inspire and develop players
The target age grade for RockIt Rugby is: Under 9s - Under 15/ - girls under 12, 14 and 16s
The content includes video challenges from Fletch and me and missions from some of the best players in the World.
It contains blended, age-appropriate skill challenges, missions from some of the best players in the World and group hangouts to share. There’s also an individual highlight reel, which is a very cool resource!
I believe Rockit is special because people can choose their own journey and accelerate their development.
Coaches and parents have their own profile and side of the triangle. They get notifications from players attempting to complete challenges. There’s also some cool challenges for them.
Everyone using the app has an individual focus which can be used at training. Coaches can now plan sessions and relax knowing that every individual will be trying to get better and move their game to the next level.
It also gives players choice within the coaches framework. Players will take ownership of their own development
For me, it’s about creating an environment I would love my own kids to be in. RockIt helps.
Every kid will be on the right level of their own game allowing coaches to have way more impactful interactions driven by the players
Thoughts from Jess:
Rusty has given (and continues to give) me an immense amount of support. I’m forever grateful for some of the conversations we’ve had.
So at some point, I knew I wanted Rusty to chat about the ethos and ideas behind RockIt Rugby.
In true Rusty fashion, there’s also plenty of prompts and golden nuggets that I’ve been thinking about:
One of the most impactful was about getting players to take ownership over their development.
Another was creating an environment that Rusty would love his own children to be in.
Whatever level and age grade you coach at, the most important question is: ‘would I enjoy it here?’
